Hot on the heels of London’s Pride Festival, our monthly reading group will be looking at the first volume of Gengoroh Tagame’s queer drama My Brother’s Husband. Do yourself a favour and get a copy to read, then be here Wednesday July 10th, 7-9pm to discuss it!
Tagame, mainly known for his hardcore erotica, has hit the ball out of the park with this moving, intensely human story of a Japanese single father who’s deceased brother’s Canadian husband comes to visit in an attempt to connect with his dead partner’s family. The manga offers a look at homophobia in modern day Japan and the subtle ways in which it manifests, which can be just as harmful as more overt, aggressive forms.
The book has been lavished with awards internationally, and was one of our Best of 2017 titles, so, y’know, highly recommended!
Come along and join in the discussion! No need to book, just come along. Everyone is welcome, so get yourself here for 7pm on Wednesday July 10th.
