It’s Drink & Draw time with our friends at Broken Frontier! This coming month we have special guests Luke Healy, Miranda Smart, and Becky Palmer! The event will be Thursday, August 30th!
Luke Healy was born in Dublin, Ireland, where he also received a BA in Journalism. He has an MFA in Cartooning from the Centre for Cartoon Studies in Vermont, USA. His work has been exhibited in the Museum of Comics and Cartoon Art in Manhattan, and his clients include Seven Days VT, Narratively The Nib. In 2016 he published How to Survive in the North with Nobrow and Permanent Press in 2018 with Avery Hill. He's published comics on The Nib. He is currently working on the webcomic The Peeping Tom, about the gentrification of East London that updates twice a week.
Miranda Smart Freelance illustrator and comic book artist based in Porto. She's illustrated the comic book Strainees written by Jules Moscovici about an Alien parent and child. She also created Gobi and Neighborhood Wash are abstract comics influenced by the musical scores of Jope Sound. She is apart of the collective Yama Comics.
Becky Palmer is an illustrator, author and comics artist. She graduated from the Cambridge School of Art with an MA in Illustration in 2012, and was awarded the inaugural Sebastian Walker prize She lives in the wilds of Herefordshire and teaches illustration at the University of Worcester. She illustrated the children's book Ellie and Lump's Very Busy Day (2018) for Walker Books, contributed a story to Nobrow's A Castle in England, La Soupière Magique (Editions Sarbacane, 2014). She recently collaborated with illustrator Daisy Hirst on a series of zines.
This event will be Thursday, August 30th at the Kings Arms pub.
Hosted by Gosh’s Nora Goldberg and Broken Frontier’s Andy Oliver, the evening will provide an opportunity for attendees to find their artistic muse in a relaxed and informal atmosphere in the company of a rotating list of guest creators from across all areas of comics publishing. With such a great group of creators, you certainly won’t be in want of inspiration!
The Drink and Draw will begin at Gosh! at 6.30pm with an opportunity to buy work from the featured artists at a discounted price before heading to the evening’s location of choice. At 7pm we will be going to a local pub, Kings Arms to begin our drinking and drawing! Follow the event on Facebook for more details.
