We'll have Giant Days creator John Allison and Giant Days novel author Non Pratt here to discuss their work and the act of adaptation on Wednesday August 29th, 7.30-9pm!
It started life as a mini-comic, developed into a mini-series and then graduated to an ongoing comic series, and now Giant Days, John Allison's chronicle of three young women's crazy student days (and one of our absolute favourite books), is getting its very own novel adaptation!
Non Pratt, author of the acclaimed YA novel Trouble, has picked up the baton of Giant Days for the young adult prose market, bringing the misadventures of Esther, Daisy and Susan to a whole new audience thanks to Amulet Books.
"Giant Days follows the hilarious and heartfelt misadventures of three university first-years: Daisy, the innocent home-schooled girl; Susan, the sardonic wit; and Esther, the vivacious drama queen. While the girls seem very different, they become fast friends during their first week of university. And it’s a good thing they do, because in the giant adventure that is college, a friend who has your back is key—something Daisy discovers when she gets a little too involved in her extracurricular club, the Yogic Brethren of Zoise. When she starts acting strange and life around campus gets even stranger (missing students, secret handshakes, monogrammed robes everywhere . . .), Esther and Susan decide it’s up to them to investigate the weirdness and save their friend."
John and Non will be here to discuss the series and the tricky work of adaptation from one medium to another, staying true to the vision of the original work while exploiting the strengths of its new narrative home. The talk will kick off at 7.30pm and be followed by a short signing, and seating is unreserved so no need for tickets or booking: just come on down and grab a seat!
