Anna Haifisch and Joe Kessler will be here in conversation on Wednesday the 28th November, 7.30-9pm, in association with Breakdown Press!
Anna Haifisch is the author of The Artist, a satirical look at the art world that featured on our adult Best of 2017 list, and continues to explore the nature of the artistic impulse in her new book from Drawn & Quarterly, Von Spatz.
“Walt Disney is exhausted both physically and mentally. After a breakdown where he trashes his office, his wife Lilian brings him to a retreat to recover—the Von Spatz Rehabilitation Center. With a campus that includes studio buildings, a gallery, an art supply store, a hot dog booth, and a penguin pool, the clinic is a paradise for artists in crisis. There Disney meets Tomi Ungerer and Saul Steinberg, and together, they embark on a regimen of relaxation and art therapy.”
Joe Kessler is one of the UK’s most exciting young cartoonists, his Windowpane anthology series mixing narrative and experimental cartooning in a seamless, accessible fashion. Now collected by Breakdown Press are the third and fourth issues of Windowpane along with new material in the Windowpane TP.
“Windowpane is a one-man-anthology of critically acclaimed narrative and experimental comics by London based artist, Joe Kessler. The book contains new work, and reprints Windowpane 3 and Windowpane 4.”
In what should be a frank and fascinating discussion, Anna and Joe will discuss their work and process, as well as broader topics of art and comics, all mediated by the good folks of Breakdown Press. There will also be an opportunity to get your books signed afterward.
