Prior to his appearance at Safari Festival, cartoonist Charles Forsman will be here on Wednesday, 9th August from 7.30-9pm to talk about his career, his work with Bergen Street Press, and the upcoming Channel 4/Netflix show adapting his book, The End of the Fucking World. Also in attendance for a panel discussion on the making of TEOTFW will be show writer Charlie Covell and director Jonathan Entwhistle!
Charles burst onto the scene with TEOTFW, self-publishing as a part of his Oily Comics mini-comics line and eventually collected into an edition by Fantagraphics. He followed with Celebrated Summer, also from Fantagraphics, before going to Bergen St Press with his ode to 80's VHS action, Revenger. Along with recently collected follow-up Revenger & the Fog, Forsman has also started Slasher, an uneasy story of obsession and violence published by Floating World Comics.
Charlie Covell is a writer & actress who is a familiar stalwart of British TV, with notable acting roles in Peepshow and Marcella. Jonathan Entwhistle is the director of a number of acclaimed shorts who has shepherded TEOTFW to the small screen.
Bergen Street Comics Press is the publishing spin-off of the late, great Bergen St Comics of Brooklyn. Along with Charles' Revenger output, they also handle acclaimed superhero saga Copra, by Michel Fiffe.
The Safari Festival is the brainchild of Breakdown Press, intended as a showcase for new waves in contemporary comics and art. Charles is in town for the festival, and will be there along with a host of exceptional talent from 11am-6pm on Saturday the 12th August. You can find more details here.
