John Kenn Mortensen will be here on Friday, 3rd November, 6-7pm to sign copies of his creepy classic Sticky Monsters, and launch an all-new Gosh! Exclusive print!
Denmark native John first came to our attention back in the early 2010's with the publication by Aben Maler of Post-It Monsters, a collection of his intricate, ghoulish doodles done on the titular stationary supplies. He had started the project as a creative exercise to occupy his spare time, when not occupied by his twin children or his day-job as an animator and children's television director.
The book was a hit, and a follow-up, More Post-It monsters followed in short order, before he was inevitably picked up for the UK by Random House and (for understandable reasons) the name of the book was changed to Sticky Monsters. But the creepy, sepia-toned mix of folktale horrors and monster-under-the-bed menaces were as effective as ever, and the book is still a regular spotlight on our shelves.
In fact, we've always been so taken with John's work that we jumped at the chance to tie this signing into a new Gosh! Exclusive print: Mortensen's Monsters! So as to showcase as many of John's gorgeous illustrations as possible, we have mimicked the format of the cigarette card display sheets that were so popular in the early 20th century, featuring sixteen spotlight images. You may think you've chosen the perfect Christmas gift, but ask yourself this: does it feature a gigantic sea creature, a floating caged-headed apparition and looming troll creatures? If the answer is no, then you've really let yourself settle for second best, heaven't you? Printed to our usual high standards, this signed, A3 digital print is limited to an edition of just 50. Pre-order now!
So keep the Halloween vibe rolling into the weekend and come on down to meet John, get a copy of Sticky Monsters signed, and pick up our new, exclusive print. Plus, we might just have some previously-unseen-in-the-UK material to get your hands on! If you can't make it along but would like to get something signed, drop us an email to email@example.com to arrange a reservation or a mail order (or pre-order the print on our online store).
