Hey Monday readers, if you're about Soho this evening, don't miss out on our talk with End of the F***ing World creator Charles Forsman, who will be here from 7.30-9pm to have a chat with our Tom. No reservations or tickets required, just rock on by and grab a seat!

We had the excellent Daisy Hirst in last Thursday to launch her brand new picture book I Don't Like Books Anymore, and it was quite the shindig, including some pretty tasty looking cookies! Thanks to Daisy and the lovely folks at Walker Books for a great night! We still have a limited number of signed copies of Daisy's book left, so drop us a line if you'd like one!

Asterix fans take note: the Jewish Museum London is hosting an amazing exhibition about the life and work of Asterix co-creator René Goscinny. Asterix in Britain: The Life and Work of René Goscinny features original art by co-creator Albert Uderzo, original scripts, storyboards, dress-up stations, films and more. A rare opportunity to delve behind-the-scenes of one of the world's most beloved comic characters. You can find more details, including a schedule of exhibition-related events, right here.

No events coming up this week, so let's jump straight into the comics!

Writer / Artist:
Hartley Lin
Publisher: AdHouse Books

Hartley Lin has been quietly working away at his series Pope Hats (under the anagram pen name Ethan Rilly) for around a decade now, crafting one of the finest slice-of-life comics on the shelves. It's the tale of aspiring law clerk Frances Scarland and her alcoholic actress roommate Vickie as they navigate the ups and downs of their personal and professional lives in Toronto.

We're so happy to see this book collected at last that we've gotten Hartley to do us an exclusive bookplate which can be ordered for mail order or in-store pick-up from our webstore right now!

Writer / Artist:
Loic Locatelli-Kournwsky
Publisher: Boom

A Ghibli-esque retelling of the Greek myth of Demeter and Persephone, with drop-dead gorgeous art by French author Locatelli-Kournwsky. Persephone, the adopted daughter of Demeter, a powerful magician, longs to discover the truth of who or what she is to get out from under the shadow of her mother's power. To do so, she travels to the Underworld, where an adventure unfolds. Seriously, this book is absolutely beautiful!

Scott Snyder, Aaron Gillespie
Artist: Andy Kubert, Klaus Janson
Publisher: DC

Challenger Mountain returns to the DC Universe, choosing five new misfits to challenge the mysteries of the multiverse. The latest book in DC's New Age of Heroes initiative, this one spearheaded by Scott Snyder and Andy Kubert. It's like the superhuman version of Mission Impossible as the team are sent on deadly missions by the mysterious Professor. Should be a fun read, particularly with Snyder's penchant for superhuman craziness.

Sibylline Desmazieres, Capucine
Artist: Jerome D'Aviau
Publisher: Magnetic

On its surface a whimsical fairytale of an amnesiac wee wotsit named Alphonse setting off in search of his creator, this translated French GN is laden with metaphor and allegory for all manner of modern angsts, including parenting, materialism, addiction, codependency, narcissism, depression, and the never-ending search for meaning. The real magic of it is that is manages to do this in a way which is never heavy-handed, and is always quite silly, charming, and endlessly entertaining.

Writer / Artist: Michael Kupperman
Publisher: Gallery 13

A decidedly different project from the man behind Tales Designed to Thrizzle, but one which we've been awaiting eagerly since its announcement back in 2016. Kupperman's father, Joel Kupperman, gained fame as the resident maths genius on the hit radio (and later television) show Quiz Kids, where the audience would send in questions to challenge the young panel of prodigies. His father went from childhood fame to being an object of derision, and consequently withdrew from the world. Michael goes through the effect this had on the family, and also examines the world of radio and television propaganda through the 1940's and beyond.

It's some high-stakes culinary adventure in this new fantasy series by Keatinge and Clark. How seriously does it take its food? Well, how many comics do you know with their own culinary consultant, here in the shape of foodie author Ari Bouzari. The story involves an underage, unlicensed chef, Xoo, who uncovers a dark secret at the heart of the walled, food-obsessed city where she illegally plies her trade.
