This is the third volume of drawings done on paper placemats by the non-stop obsessive Robert Crumb. All the images in this beautifully produced hardcover landscape book were indeed drawn, as the title suggests, while Crumb was waiting to be served in restaurants. The only thing missing from this book are the food and grease stains on the paper, which were present when they were exhibited at a New York art gallery – whose owner claimed that they enhanced the value through giving them an ambience that appeals to art buyers. He must’ve been on to something, as some of them sold for thousands of dollars… “That’s the art world for you”, as Crumb says himself in the introduction.
