The multi-award-winning From Hell by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell is on everyone’s Top Ten Graphic Novels list, and undoubtedly the book to buy if you’re after something about London and its history. Taking over ten years to complete, it’s an extensively researched piece about Jack the Ripper and his victims – not a whodunnit, but a truly amazing study of occult ritual, bleak Victorian London and the city’s psychogeography. To summarise it in a blurb of this length is near impossible which is why Moore took 600 pages to do it. It’s a thing that’s said about too many books but with this one it’s actually true: this book will change your life, or at least to the Londoner it will make the streets you walk down every day seem grander and more alive.
