Erik the Red Signing With Søren Mosdal

Danish author Søren Mosdal will be here signing copies of his Centrala title Erik the Red: King of Winter on Monday May 15th, 6-7pm.

While we haven’t seen a lot of Mosdal’s work in English before, he’s been a mainstay in European comics since the mid-90’s, with prominent works in the Danish, German and French industries, as well as English-language appearances in Solvenian anthology Stripburger. We were very excited to see his 2014 historical fiction title Erik the Red make it into English last year, thanks to publisher Centrala.

Erik the Red tells the story of Erik Torvaldsson, who in 982 left his home of Iceland (thanks to a feud with his neighbour) and established a colony in a land mass he dubbed Greenland (apparently to attract settlers). He ruled there as its “Paramount Chieftain” until his death in 1003. Mosdal’s style adds immensely to the take, reminiscient of the likes of Joann Sfar, Christophe Blain and Blutch.

Needless to say, with Søren passing through London we’re pleased as punch to have the opportunity to host a signing with him, in association with Centrala. Søren will be here on Monday May 15th, from 6-7pm, so come on down! If you can’t make it, but would like a reservation or a mail order, drop an email to info@goshlondon.com.

Hello!

Quick bit of admin: due to the bank holiday weekend, the comics will be arriving to go out on Wednesday this week. That means they will be late out on the shelves, depending on when we receive the delivery. We always hope to have everything out by lunch time, but keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook feeds, where we’ll announce as soon as they’re ready.

Couple of great launch parties coming up this week. First up is the ever-lovely Gareth Edwards‘ new book, A Thousand Coloured Castles, published by Myriad. We’ll be toasting Gareth’s excellent new book on Thursday April 20th, 7-9pm. More details here.

Then on Friday April 21st, 7-9pm, we’ll have the equally lovely Hamish Steele here to launch his new graphic novel from Nobrow, Pantheon. The book is a blast, so don’t miss your chance to get Hamish to sign your copy. More details here.

Pantheon Launch Party with Hamish Steele

Hamish Steele will be here on Friday 21st April from 7-9pm to celebrate the launch of Pantheon, published by Nobrow!

Pantheon began its life as a self-published title that impressed with its level of professionalism (and was a regular feature on our small press shelves). Steele, an artist, animator, writer, director and web comics author, showed a talent for storytelling and craft (as well as a deft comedic eye) that stood out, and it seems that Nobrow agreed with us. It’s a remastered, full colour edition of the original series in one handsome block of a book, and we’re pleased as punch to able to host a launch party for it!

“The most important myth in Ancient Egypt is faithfully retold in glorious colour! Horus, son of Isis, vows bloody revenge on his Uncle Set for the murder and usurpation of his Pharaoh father. Based on elements from several versions of the famous Osiris myth, Hamish Steele has resurrected this fantastic story in all its symbolic and humorous glory. Pantheon contains: incest, decapitation, suspicious salad, fighting hippos, flying cows, a boat race, resurrections, lots of scorpions and a golden willy.”

Hamish will be here to sign and draw golden willies in your books on Friday, April 21st from 7-9pm. There will be drinks and general mirth and merriment, so get yourselves along and get yourselves a copy of this brilliant book! Can’t make it along on the night? Be sure to email us, info@goshlondon.com, to arrange a reservation or a mail order.

FACE Launch Party with Rosario Villajos

Rosario Villajos will be here to celebrate the launch of her new Fanfare / Ponent Mon graphic novel FACE on Friday the 24th March, from 7-9pm!

We’re very pleased to be able to host the launch of Rosario’s new graphic novel, a meditation on identity, image and our obsession with how each influences and reflects the other.

Let’s face it, what is it that identifies you to those who surround you? Your lovers, your friends, your colleagues, acquaintances or even strangers? What attracts or repulses them? Is it what they look at? Or what they see? What do YOU see when you look into a mirror? Creator Rosario Villajos looks closely at this topic and wonders about life without a face.

Spanish-born Rosario Villajos is a multi-disciplined, ideas-led graphic designer and illustrator who graduated from the ELISAVA School of design and Engineering in Barcelona. Since 2011 she has been based in London, where she has worked in the the film industry, as well as undertaking a wide variety of work experience including installations and arts exhibitions as an independent artist. FACE is her first graphic novel.
