Henchgirl TP Bookplate Art Giveaway

Henchgirl has long been something of a hidden gem. Originally published by Scout Comics, Kristen Gudsnuk’s tale of a supervillan sidekick dissatisfied with her lot didn’t reach a lot of readers. Trouble was, by the time people caught on to how good it was, they just weren’t able to get hold of any of the early issues any more.

Thankfully Dark Horse are stepping up to the plate with a brand new trade paperback collecting all 11 issues of the Scout Comics series. It’s a 320 page monster of comic-y fun, and we’re so excited we’ve had Kristen do us an exclusive bookplate!

But wait…it gets even better. Kristen has very generously given one lucky customer the opportunity to win the ORIGINAL ART for the plate! Here’s how it works: every customer who preorders a copy of the book either in-store or on our web store will go into a draw for the artwork. On the day of release, we’ll put everyone’s name in a hat and pick a winner, who will receive the art with their copy of the book!

Rules and Restrictions: Offer only applies to copies of the book pre-ordered online or in-store before the anticipated release date of March 29th, 2017. Your name will be entered in the draw once for every copy of Henchgirl TP you pre-order, so multiple copies ordered gives you multiple chances!

Don’t miss out on the chance to get hold of a piece of original art, which would be the icing on the cake for this terrific book!

This item is offered for pre-order. It will be dispatched after its anticipated release date of 29/03/2017. Orders may be cancelled any time up until the date of release for a full refund. In the event of a drop in price before release, the excess paid will be refunded. No extra will be charged in the event of an increase in price.

The Visitor Signing with Paul Grist

Paul Grist will be here signing copies of The Visitor: How and Why He Stayed #1 on Wednesday the 22nd February, from 6-7pm!

The latest addition to the Mignolaverse, The Visitor takes us back to America in the 50’s, where we pick up the story of the mysterious alien assassin just briefly glimpsed in the pages of Seed of Destruction. While we saw his demise in The Conqueror Worm, no other details have ever been revealed about this character: why he was left behind, what he did here in between his two appearances, and who he actually was. Now all is revealed in this 5 part miniseries that charts the five decades that The Visitor spent hidden among us, written by Mike Mignola & Chris Roberson, and drawn by none other than UK comics treasure Paul Grist!

Possibly one of the most underrated talents in UK comics, Grist has been crafting a series of bonafide classics for more than two decades. Kane, Jack Staff and Mudman all showcase his authorial voice, with no other book feeling quite like them. It’s a unique melange of US and UK influences, and we’re very happy to see him take on such a high profile project.

Paul will be here from 6-7pm on Wednesday 22nd February signing copies of the new comic, as well as any of his old works that you’d like to get signed. You can keep up with any event updates on the Facebook event page.

Image Day Signing with Dan Watters & Caspar Wijngaard

Image turns 25 this year, and they’re having a day of signings and events worldwide to kick off the celebrations! We’ll be playing host to Limbo‘s Caspar Wijngaard & Dan Watters for an Image Day signing on Wednesday the 1st February, 6-7pm!

Limbo was one of the surprise hits of last year, a whip-smart occult detective noir, drenched in 80’s neon. In a cocktail that mixes equal parts Dashiell Hammet and David Cronenberg with its own unique ingredients, Watters and Wijngaard have whipped up a novel concoction that’s a pleasure to ingest from start to finish.

A detective with no memory, no identity and no manners. A femme fatale seeking escape from a powerful crime lord. A voodoo queen with a penchant for mixtapes and hi-tops. A goat-eating TV… Welcome to Dedande City, where good people check under their beds at night and reality is never quite what it seems.

And it’s not just a signing! To help celebrate Image Day, we’ll be doing 10% off of all Image Comics TPBs on the day, and a massive 25% off the Limbo TPB! What more excuse do you need? Come on down to see Dan and Caspar, get their excellent book signed and treat yourself to some more of Image’s amazing range of books.

The gents will be here from 6-7pm on Wednesday the 1st February. Keep up with any event updates on the Facebook event page. Can’t make it on the day? Email us on info@goshlondon.com to arrange a reservation or mail order (but full price on reservations and mail orders, sorry!).

Art of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Signing & Talk

We’ll have an incredible line-up of costume designers and concept artists from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story here for a signing and q&a on Friday, 3rd February. Glyn DillonDave CrossmanAdam Brockbank, Matt Allsopp, Vincent Jenkins, Jon Mccoy and Will Htay will be here from 7.30 – 9.00pm!

The eagerly anticipated Star Wars spin-off/prequel Rogue One hit cinemas in December (and still resides in many), and presented a unique challenge for those involved: how to recreate the look and feel of the classic trilogy while still introducing new elements that felt a natural part of it. Fair to say that all involved did a phenomenal job, as laid out in The Art of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, written by Josh Kushins.

Lucky for us plenty of those talented folks are based right here in the UK, and we’re lucky enough to be hosting a number of them for a Q&A session and signing! We’ll have costume designers Glyn Dillon & Dave Crossman, as well as concept artists Adam Brockbank, Matt Allsopp, Vincent Jenkins, Jon Mccoy and Will Htay all here in-store to talk about their process working on the film, as well as take your questions. There will also be an opportunity to get copies of The Art of Rogue One signed by this incredible roster of talent.

Things kick off on Friday, 3rd February from 7.30-9pm. The event isn’t ticketed, it’s a first-come, first-served seating arrangement and space is limited, so get here early! And keep up with any event updates on the Facebook event page. Can’t make it along? Email us at info@goshlondon.com to reserve a signed copy or arrange a mail order. Postage in the UK is a flat rate of £5 and quotes for international shipping are available on request.

Hello!

Big news of the week is our upcoming 2000 AD 40th Anniversary signing with Pat Mills & Kevin O’Neill! We’ll be hosting these two titans of British comics on Friday the 10th of February, 6-7pm. They’ll also be launching their new prose collaboration, Read Em And Weep Book One: Serial Killer, and our 12th and final 30th Anniversary print, Nemesis the Warlock!

The print will go on sale at the event, and retails for £35. We’re not taking preorders on this one, but we’ll hold a small number back for online order after the signing. On-sale at 11am on Saturday the 11th February.

Our 2017 events schedule kicks back into life this week with a Process session featuring the incredible Ronald Wimberly this Wednesday at 7.30pm. With Ronald’s wide body of work, including creating the critically acclaimed Prince Of Cats (recently re-mastered and re-released), illustrating Sentences: The Life Of M.F. Grimm and doing guest spots on titles as diverse as Lucifer, Prophet and She-Hulk, this should prove to be a pretty illuminating talk.

2000 AD 40th Anniversary Signing- Pat Mills & Kevin O’Neill

Pat Mills and Kevin O’Neill will be here to sign on Friday the 10th February from 6-7pm. Don’t miss this one, folks!

The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic turns 40 this year, and to celebrate, the good folks at 2000 AD are throwing a massive celebratory convention! The Forty Years of Thrill-Power Festival takes place at the Novotel London West on Saturday the 11th February from 10am – 7pm, and should be one hell of a knees-up, with luminaries from throughout the entire history of the seminal sci-fi anthology. Sadly the event is now sold out, but keep an eye out here in case of any news.

Not content to just sit on the sidelines, we wanted to get on board with celebrating this milestone by getting together two of the creators instrumental in the magazine’s success: Pat Mills & Kevin O’Neill!

The influence of the pair on 2000 AD (and beyond) is immeasurable, whether it be in the pages of ABC Warriors and Nemesis the Warlock, or editorial acts such as introducing creator credits in British comics. That fruitful collaboration continued elsewhere with the creation of ultimate anti-hero Marshal Law, and into present day with crime novel Read Em and Weep Book One: Serial Killer.

Launching at the festival, Read ‘Em and Weep is a darkly comedic prose thriller set in the 70’s, co-authored by Mills & O’Neill: “Can a man-child comic book editor who hates everyone be a hero? You bet! Dave Maudling, the Liquorice Detective, isn’t just a fur-obsessed, confectionary-munching loser. He is also a SERIAL KILLER. But everything is about to change–for the worst.” We’ll have copies available on the night!

We’ll also be launching the latest and final of our 30th Anniversary prints: a beautiful Nemesis the Warlock Screenprint! It releases on the day, and we’ll have a small number held back for online orders on Saturday 11th February from 11am.

Pat & Kevin will be here from 6-7pm on Friday the 10th February. If you can’t make it along but would like to get something signed, email us on info@goshlondon.com to arrange a reservation or a mail order. Keep an eye of the Facebook event for updates.

When I’m A Mummy Like You Launch Party

David O’Connell and Francesca Gambatesa will be here to launch their new book, When I’m A Mummy Like You, on Thursday the 9th February from 7-9pm!

David & Francesca were the creative team behind one of last year’s most heart-warming kids books, When I’m A Monster Like You, Dad. They’ve re-teamed for a new book from publishers Harpercollins which puts the spotlight on a relationship between a mother and her daughter, a neat companion piece that also has its own unique message.

Every child wants to be just like their mummy and do all the exciting things that grown-ups do. But is being a mummy really that much fun? Or can being small be just as special? Maybe they can both be wonderful, if you do them together.

David O’Connell is a writer and illustrator living in London, UK. His favorite things to draw are monsters, naughty children, batty old ladies and evil cats. He loves comics too, and has had work published in anthologies such as Birdsong, Solipsistic Pop, Paper Science and Accent UK, as well as his own webcomic, TozoDavid edited ink+PAPER, a biannual anthology combining comics and the graphic arts. He is the creator of the Monster & Chips series and illustrator on the Creature Teachers book series. His writing credits include Jampireswith illustrator Sarah McIntyre, and When I’m A Monster Like You, Dad.

Francesca Gambatesa is an Italian illustrator and animator based in London. She was born in Lebanon, grew up in Rome and got her animation degree at the Italian National film school C.S.C. She’s worked as an animator and art director for children TV series, internet productions and feature films between Italy and the UK. Animation and design work include BBC series Wee Wise Words, Jiles Andreae’s The World of Happy and end credit sequence of feature film Nanny Mcphee and the Big Bang. Her recent illustration work is for Penguin Young Readers, Usborne Books and Zanichelli Editore. She illustrated the kids book series Recipe For Adventure by Giada de Laurentiis.

David and Francesca will be here to toast the release of When I’m A Mummy Like You on Thursday, 9th February from 7-9pm. Keep up with any updates on the Facebook event page.

Come down and grab yourself a signed copy, or possibly get a copy signed for the mummy in your life. (*cough Mother’s Day 18th March cough*) If you can’t make it down but would like to get a signed copy, drop us an email to info@goshlondon.com to arrange a reservation or a mail order. Postage in the UK is a flat rate of £5 and quotes for international shipping are available on request.
