We’ve got some great news to share! The amazing Darwyn Cooke will be over in the UK for The Lakes International Comic Art Festival and he’ll also be coming to Gosh! Not only will he be doing a signing from 6-7pm but he’ll also be giving a talk at 7.30 – 9pm on Wednesday the 21st of October.
Darwyn Cooke broke into the superhero scene by working on those classic crime fighting capers such as the Justice League in the modern DC classic The New Frontier and Batman. Darwyn hasn’t just illustrated superheroes for comics but he’s also drawn them for the screen, as a storyboard artist on The New Batman/Superman Adventures animated series. But you might also know his classic cinematic style from his work that gravitates more towards crime like his classic run on Catwoman with Ed Brubaker or his graphic novel adaptations of Donald Westlake’s Parker novels.
Darwyn’s latest project Twilight Children is a new mini-series written by legendary comics creators Gilbert Hernandez. They’ve teamed up to create this exciting surreal project which will launch in October.
‘When a white orb washes up on the shore of a remote Latin American village, a group of children naturally poke at the strange object to see what it is. The orb explodes, leaving the children completely blind. And when a beautiful young woman who may be an alien is found wandering the seafront, she’s taken in by the townspeople, but soon becomes a person of interest to a quirky pair of undercover CIA agents, and the target of affection for a young scientist. Can they come together to prevent an all-out alien invasion and save the souls in this sleepy, seaside town?’
IDW says ‘Darwyn Cooke, Eisner-Award-winning writer/artist, sets his artistic sights on bringing to life one of the true classics of crime fiction: Richard Stark’s Parker.Stark was a pseudonym used by the revered and multi-award-winning author, Donald Westlake. The Hunter, the first book in the Parker series, is the story of a man who hits New York head-on like a shotgun blast to the chest. Betrayed by the woman he loved and double-crossed by his partner in crime, Parker makes his way cross-country with only one thought burning in his mind – to coldly exact his revenge and reclaim what was taken from him!’
