Steven Appleby is a regular face at Gosh! Comics, having hosted a Comica Conversation with Richard McGuire and launching his book Steven Appleby’s Guide To Life all within these very walls. Needless to say we’re big fans.
This time round we’re hosting a signing and drinks to help celebrate the release of Appleby’s latest project with Pixies frontman Black Francis and jack-of-all-trades writer/director/cinema-owner Josh Frank.

The novel is the origin story of history’s earliest known pornographic film, La Bonne Auberge (coincidentally also the name of a swanky Glaswegian restaurant), and tells the story of a shipwrecked soldier and his journey across the French countryside of 1907. The story that follows is part fact, part fiction, creatively told through the words of Francis and Frank and the illustrations of Appleby. The book, published by Selfmadehero, is described by Barnes and Noble as being “transgressive historical fiction, with shades of Thomas Pynchon- explosive, cinematic, set in a hallucinatory Edwardian Europe.”
The event will be held on June 17th, between 7pm and 9pm, and is the perfect opportunity to pick up a copy of the book and pretend we haven’t all Googled La Bonne Auberge in hopes of watching. For research purposes, of course.
