Gilbert Shelton started Wonder Wart-hog back in 1962 and it’s the underground comix legend’s earliest comic work. As you might imagine from the title, it’s a porcine Superman-parody about meek reporter Philbert Desanex who is at times inhabited by and at other times transforms into Wonder Wart-hog – a chaotic 800-pound humanoid warthog who seeks to solve humanity’s problems with his own brand of chaos and violence. Shelton himself looks back on the history of the character in this CBR interview.
A handsome companion edition to Knockabout’s Complete Freak Brothers and Fat Freddy’s Cat volumes, The Best of Wonder Wart-Hog is a sizeable 464-page paperback collecting all the best material from the character’s publishing history, and I’m pleased to say that like those two previous volumes, we’re going to have a Gosh! Exclusive Bookplate Edition!
The book is released in November, so if you’d like to preorder a copy, email as at email@example.com. If you are wanting to do mail order, we do payment by PayPal and postage prices will be:
