We’re hosting a City Lit talk with Jon Miers on Tuesday the 17th of September. I’ll hand this over to City Lit to fill you in:
We are pleased to announce the first of our Fast Forward talks at the famous Gosh Comic Book store in the heart of London. John Miers the award winning contemporary comic book artist will be giving a talk on Visual Storytelling techniques. He will be addressing the question: Are comics art or literature- or are they both, neither, and something else entirely all at once? This is your chance to find out how image, text, abstract symbols and composition combine in the most innovative medium around.
Famous for his fine art alternative approach to comic book art, John’s art work has been widely published and his contribution to comic art widely acknowledged. John is a regular contributing artist to the alternative fine art comic anthology Solipsistic Pop. His work features prominently in the forthcoming book on Comics Art (Tate publishing 2013) and in Studies in Comics (Intellect 2012). John Miers is currently working on a practice-based PhD in comics and graphic novels at Central St Martins College of Art and Design where he also works as a visiting practitioner. John has recently joined City Lit as a part time lecturer.
