This post comes to you from someone who just met Tom Baker in the street and thus lit up the scoreboard, famous-person-wise, because it’ll take a lot to beat that. I’ve been thinking about it for half an hour now and I can’t think who would beat Tom Baker. I’ve won, we can all go home.
Last week Dan Clowes’ The Death-Ray arrived too late for a mention in the blog, but if it had done it would have been my pick of the week. I’ve been kind of spoiled recently, in that the two books I’ve been waiting years for (Habibi being the other) have come out in the same month like some old bus cliché. The Death-Ray is not new stuff but unless you were around in 2004 to buy the oversized Eightball it originally appeared in chances are you haven’t seen it before, which is just too terrible to even think about. Let us right that for you:

I started writing this blog yesterday right before we were plunged into darkness, and I finished it after it happened again today. A massive power failure meant that us lot at Gosh! and some coffee shops, along some slightly dodgier Soho shops, were without light for about three hours or so. We found out just how dark and scary the basement can get and that a surprising number of people are totally okay with shopping by the light of their mobile phone. It’s a good job I eat my carrots.
